Salud


Today's WOTD is: "salud" = health

In Spanish, “salud” is a feminine noun of Latin origin, which means health.

Some commonly used expression with the word “salud”are:
  • ¡A mi salud! (to my health!- a toast);
  • ¡A nuestra salud! (to our health!- a toast);
  • ¡A vuestra salud! (to your- plural health!- a toast- familiar);
  • ¡A su salud! (to your health!- a toast- formal);
  • ¡A su salud! (to his/ her/ their health!- a toast);
  • ¡A tu salud! (to your health!- a toast- familiar);
  • Año de nuestra salud (the year of our Lord/ AD);
  • Área de salud (the healthcare field);
  • Asegurar la salud de las personas (to take care of people's health);
  • Beber a la salud de alguien (to drink to the health/ to toast the health of someone);
  • Cuartel de la salud (a place free from hazards or danger/ a safe haven);
  • Curarse en salud (to take all precautions at the slightest threat);
  • Estar bien de salud (to be in good health);
  • Estar delicado de salud (to be in poor health);
  • Estar mal de salud (to be ill of health);
  • Gastar salud (to be physically fit/ healthy);
  • Gozar de buena salud (to enjoy good health);
  • Mejorar la salud (to make health improvements);
  • Preservar la salud (to stay healthy);
  • Salud laboral (occupational health);
  • Salud mental (mental health);
  • Salud pública (public health);
  • Seguro de salud (health insurance);
  • Tener una salud de hierro (to have a strong constitution/ to be as fit as a fiddle);

Some examples of the use of the word "salud" are:
  • Todo esto ocurrió en el año de salud de 1531 (all this happened in the year of our Lord of 1531);
  • Se trata de una empresa importante en el área salud (it is an important business in the field of health care);
  • Asegurar la salud de las personas es competencia de las autoridades (taking care of people's health is the authorities' responsibility);
  • ¡Bebamos a nuestra salud! (let's drink to our health!)
  • Esto es mi cuartel de salud (this is my safe haven);
  • Para evitar perder datos, me curo en salud y hago dos copias de cada archivo (to avoid loosing data, I take precautions by making two copies of each file);
  • ¿Cómo estáis de salud? (how is your health?);
  • Estamos bien de salud (we are in good health);
  • Estoy delicado de salud (I am in poor health);
  • Estoy mal de salud (I am in ill health);
  • Pedro gasta buena salud, ¿verdad? (Pedro is fit and healthy, isn't he?);
  • Gozáis de buena salud, ¿verdad? (you- plural are fit and healthy, aren't you?);
  • Seguimos intentando mejorar la salud (we keep trying to improve our health);
  • Seguimos intentando preservar la salud (we keep trying to stay healthy);
  • La salud laboral es muy importante (occupational health is very important);
  • La salud mental es muy importante (mental health is very important);
  • La salud pública es muy importante (public health is very important);
  • Los seguros de salud ofrecen ventajas fiscales, ¿verdad? (health insurance policies offer tax incentives, don't they?);
  • Antonio tiene una salud de hierro (Antonio has strong constitution/ is as fit as a fiddle);
