Introduction
This
post deals with talking about the past
in general, and more specifically with stating the
time
at which something finished.
Imagine
you are talking to
a relative, a friend or a work colleague about what you did
yesterday, when you went to a football/ soccer game. At some point,
the other person says:
"at
what time did the match finish?"
In
Spanish, the other person could say:
¿A
qué hora terminó el partido?
OUR
TIP
Answering
is quite straightforward. Just make sure that you use the right time
expression*.
Here
are some examples of how you could reply:
- Terminó a la una y media (it finished at a half past one)
- Terminó a las cinco y diez (it finished at ten past five)
- Terminó a las siete en punto (it finished at seven o'clock)
- No sé a qué hora terminó (I don't know at what time it finished)
*
Notes
Please
note the difference between the expressions of time used in these
answers and typical expressions used in telling the time, such as:
- Es la una y media (it is half past one)
- Son las dos y veinte (it is twenty minutes past two)
- No sé qué hora es (I don't know what time it is)
Now
you should practise answering the question:
¿A
qué hora terminó el partido?
