Gotera


Today's WOTD is: "gotera" = leak

In Spanish, the noun "gotera" is a feminine noun of Latin origin which means leak*. The noun “gotera” is also related to the Spanish noun “gota” which means a drop of water or other liquid.

In Spanish, the noun “gotera” may be used also to refer to a damp stain.

*NB The noun “gotera” is not normally used is Spanish to refer specifically to wikileaks. The English term wikileaks is often used in Spanish instead.

A commonly used expression containing the word "gotera" is:
  • Pepe Gotera y Otilio chapuzas a domicilio (Spanish comic title);


Some examples of the use of the word "gotera" are:
  • Pepe Gotera y Otilio chapuzas a domicilio es una serie de historietas (“Pepe Gotera y Otilio chapuzas a domicilio” is a series of comics);
  • Tenemos una gotera en el techo (we have damp stain in the ceiling);
