Introduction
This
post showcases/ highlights a typical use of the verb dar*.
SCENARIO
Imagine
you are talking to a relative, a friend or a work colleague about
you being on a blind date. At some point, the
other person says:
"where
did you arrange to meet?"
In
Spanish, he/she could choose to be less formal and say:
¿Dónde
os disteis cita?
Alternatively,
he/ she could choose to be more formal and say:
¿Dónde
se dieron cita ustedes?
OUR
TIP
Answering
this question should be straightforward. Indicating or naming a place
might well be sufficient. However, the question includes an
expression (darse cita) which you could use to make your
answer more informative.
Here
are some examples of how you could use that expression:
- Nos dimos cita en la estación (we arranged to meet at the station);
- Nos dimos cita en un bar (we arranged to meet in a bar);
- Nos dimos cita en el centro (we arranged to meet in the centre);
- Nos dimos cita en un sitio muy tranquilo (we arranged to meet in a very quiet place);
Now
you should practise answering the question:
¿Dónde
os disteis cita?
