SCENARIO
This deals with handling telephone calls, and in particular identifying yourself to a caller.
SCENARIO
Imagine
you call someone on the phone.
Having exchanged the customary greetings, the other person says
: "who
is speaking?"
In
Spanish, the other person could say:
¿Con
quién hablo?
OUR
TIP
Responding should
be quite straightforward. However, before you reply, you should
decide how you are going to refer to yourself*.
If you are a female
(name, Mary Brown) and you want to refer to yourself in a formal
manner, you could say:
- Con doña1 Mary Brown (Mrs Mary Brown);
- Con la señora Brown (Mrs Brown);
- Con la señorita Brown (Miss Brown);
1.
Spanish title doña (English equivalent Mrs) is used with
given names and not with just surnames (in some parts its use is less
common).
Now you should practise answering the question:
¿Con
quién hablo?
