Who Is Talking?

Introduction


This deals with handling telephone calls, and in particular identifying yourself to a caller.





SCENARIO



Imagine you call someone on the phone. Having exchanged the customary greetings, the other person says : "who is speaking?"

In Spanish, the other person could say:
¿Con quién hablo?



OUR TIP

Responding should be quite straightforward. However, before you reply, you should decide how you are going to refer to yourself*.




If you are a male (name, Peter Brown) and you want to refer to yourself in a formal manner, you could say:
  • Con don Peter Brown (Mr. Peter Brown);
  • Con el señor Brown (Mr. Brown);
