Introduction
This
post deals with indicating how near/ far the swimming pool is
in Spanish, and the distance from where you are to the
swimming pool.
SCENARIO
Imagine
you are with a
relative, a friend, a work colleague or even a complete stranger who
is looking for the swimming pool and asks you:
"is
the swimming pool far away?"
In
Spanish, the other person could choose to say:
¿Queda
lejos la piscina?
OUR
TIP
The
question is an invitation for you to say how far away the swimming
pool is. A yes/no answer may be strictly sufficient. However, with
little effort, your answer could be a lot more informative.
Here
are some examples of how you could reply:
- La piscina queda lejos (the swimming pool is far away)
- La piscina queda bastante lejos (the swimming pool is quite far away)
- La piscina queda muy lejos (the swimming pool is very far away)
- La piscina queda cerca (the swimming pool is near)
- La piscina queda bastante cerca (the swimming pool is quite near)
- La piscina queda muy cerca (the swimming pool is very near)
- La piscina queda a la vuelta de la esquina (the swimming pool is around the corner)
- La piscina queda al final de la calle (the swimming pool is at the end of the street/ road)
- La piscina queda a dos manzanas (the swimming pool is two blocks away)
- La piscina queda a dos cuadras (the swimming pool is two blocks away)
- La piscina queda a cinco minutos a pie (the swimming pool is five minutes away on foot)
- La piscina no queda lejos (the swimming pool is not far away)
- La piscina queda a doscientos metros* (the swimming pool is 200 meters away)
- La piscina queda a trescientos metros* (the swimming pool is 300 meters away)
Now
you should practise answering the question:
¿Queda
lejos la piscina?
