Introduction
This
post deals with indicating how near/ far the museum is in
Spanish, and the distance from where you are to the museum.
SCENARIO
Imagine you are with a relative, a friend, a work colleague or even a complete stranger who is looking for the museum and asks you: "is the museum near?"
In
Spanish, the other person could choose to say:
¿Queda
cerca el museo?
OUR
TIP
The
question is an invitation for you to say how far away the museum is.
A yes/no answer may be strictly sufficient. However, with little
effort, your answer could be a lot more informative.
Here
are some examples of how you could reply:
- El museo queda lejos (the museum is far away)
- El museo queda bastante lejos (the museum is quite far away)
- El museo queda muy lejos (the museum is very far away)
- El museo queda cerca (the museum is near)
- El museo queda bastante cerca (the museum is quite near)
- El museo queda muy cerca (the museum is very near)
- El museo queda a la vuelta de la esquina (the museum is around the corner)
- El museo queda al final de la calle a la izquierda (the museum is at the end of the street/ road on the left)
- El museo queda a dos manzanas (the museum is two blocks away)
- El museo queda a dos cuadras (the museum is two blocks away)
- El museo queda a cinco minutos a pie (the museum is five minutes away on foot)
- El museo queda en el centro (the museum is in the town centre/ downtown)
- El museo no queda cerca (the museum is not near)
- El museo queda a doscientos metros* (the museum is 200 meters away)
- El museo queda a trescientos metros* (the museum is 300 meters away)
Now
you should practise answering the question:
¿Queda
cerca el museo?
