Introduction
This
post deals with indicating how near/ far the stadium is in
Spanish, and the distance from where you are to the stadium.
SCENARIO
Imagine you are with a relative, a friend, a work colleague or even a complete stranger who is looking for the stadium and asks you: "is the stadium far away?"
In
Spanish, the other person could choose to say:
¿Queda
lejos el estadio?
OUR
TIP
The
question is an invitation for you to say how far away the stadium is.
A yes/no answer may be strictly sufficient. However, with little
effort, your answer could be a lot more informative.
Here
are some examples of how you could reply:
- El estadio queda lejos (the stadium is far away)
- El estadio queda bastante lejos (the stadium is quite far away)
- El estadio queda muy lejos (the stadium is very far away)
- El estadio queda cerca (the stadium is near)
- El estadio queda bastante cerca (the stadium is quite near)
- El estadio queda muy cerca (the stadium is very near)
- El estadio queda a la vuelta de la esquina (the stadium is around the corner)
- El estadio queda al final de la calle (the stadium is at the end of the street/ road)
- El estadio queda a dos manzanas (the stadium is two blocks away)
- El estadio queda a dos cuadras (the stadium is two blocks away)
- El estadio queda a cinco minutos a pie (the stadium is five minutes away on foot)
- El estadio queda en el centro (the stadium is in the town centre/ downtown)
- El estadio no queda lejos (the stadium is not far away)
- El estadio queda a doscientos metros* (the stadium is 200 meters away)
- El estadio queda a trescientos metros* (the stadium is 300 meters away)
Now
you should practise answering the question:
¿Queda
lejos el estadio?
