Frontera

Today's WOTD is: "frontera" = border


In Spanish, “frontera” is a feminine noun of Latin origin, the main meaning of which is border, as in:
  • Estamos cerca de la frontera (we are near the border);





The describing word/ adjective “fronterizo”/ “fronteriza” is a related word meaning border or frontier, as in:
  • Cruce fronterizo (a border/ frontier crossing);
  • Ciudad fronteriza (border city/ town)

A couple of Spanish expressions with the word “frontera” are:
  • Jerez de la Frontera (Spanish city famous for its wine industry -origin of sherry wines);
  • Médicos Sin Fronteras (Doctors Without Borders/ Médicins Sans Frontièrs/ MSF);
