Persiana

Today's WOTD is: "persiana" = blind

In Spanish, “persiana” is a feminine noun of French origin commonly used to refer to a window blind.


The words “persiano” or “persiana” may also be used to refer to someone or something of Persian nationality/ origin.


Some expressions with the word “persiana” are:
  • Abrir la persiana (to raise/ open the blind);
  • Bajar la persiana (to lower/ close the blind);
  • Cerrar la persiana (to close the blind);
  • Enrollarse como una persiana (to go on and on -irrelevant talk)
  • Persiana veneciana (Venetian blind);
  • Subir la persiana (to raise/ open the blind);

Some examples of the use of the words "persiana" are:
  • Abramos las persianas para que entre la luz (let us open the blinds to allow light in);
  • Bajemos las persianas para que no entre el sol (let us lower/ close the blinds to keep the sun out);
  • Cerremos las persianas para que no entre el sol (let us close the blinds to keep the sun out);
  • Ese tipo se enrolla como una persiana (that guy goes on and on/ talks a lot of nonsense)
  • Las persianas venecianas son muy prácticas (Venetian blinds are very useful);
  • Subamos las persianas para que entre la luz (let us open the blinds to allow light in);
