How Much Is The Air Fare?

SCENARIO
Imagine you are talking to a relative, a friend or colleague. Maybe you are talking about flying out to New York. The other person is curious about the cost of that flight and says to you something like: "how much is the air fare?"

In Spanish, the other person could say:
¿Cuánto cuesta el viaje en avión?

OUR TIP
The question is an invitation for you to say whether or not you know the price of the airfare in question. Your reply depends on whether you want to say that you:
  • Believe you know roughly the price;
  • Know roughly the price;
  • Know the correct price;
  • Don't know the price;

Here are some examples of how you could reply:
  • Creo que cuesta unos ciento veinte dólares (I believe it costs around US$120);
  • Cuesta unos ciento veinte dólares (it costs about US$120);
  • Cuesta ciento veinte dólares (it costs US$120);
  • No sé cuanto cuesta el viaje en avión (I don't know how much the airfare is);

Now you should practise answering the question:
¿Cuánto cuesta el viaje en avión?
