Introduction
This
post deals with indicating how near/ far the bus stop is in
Spanish, and the distance from where you are to the bus stop.
SCENARIO
Imagine you are with a relative, a friend, a work colleague or even a complete stranger who is looking for a bus stop and asks you: "is the bus stop far away?"
In
Spanish, the other person could choose to say:
¿Queda
lejos la parada de autobús?
OUR
TIP
The
question is an invitation for you to say how far away the bus stop
is. A yes/no answer may be strictly sufficient. However, with little
effort, your answer could be a lot more informative.
Here
are some examples of how you could reply:
- La parada de autobús queda lejos (the bus stop is far away)
- La parada de autobús queda bastante lejos (the bus stop is quite far away)
- La parada de autobús queda muy lejos (the bus stop is very far away)
- La parada de autobús queda cerca (the bus stop is near)
- La parada de autobús queda bastante cerca (the bus stop is quite near)
- La parada de autobús queda muy cerca (the bus stop is very near)
- La parada de autobús queda a la vuelta de la esquina (the bus stop is around the corner)
- La parada de autobús queda al final de la calle a la izquierda (the bus stop is at the end of the street/ road on the left)
- La parada de autobús queda a dos manzanas (the bus stop is two blocks away)
- La parada de autobús queda a dos cuadras (the bus stop is two blocks away)
- La parada de autobús queda a cinco minutos a pie (the bus stop is five minutes away on foot)
- La parada de autobús no queda lejos (the bus stop is not far away)
- La parada de autobús queda a doscientos metros* (the bus stop is 200 meters away)
- La parada de autobús queda a trescientos metros* (the bus stop is 300 meters away)
Now
you should practise answering the question:
¿Queda
lejos la parada de autobús?
