Imagine
you are talking to
a relative, a friend or colleague. You are talking about clothes. At
some point, the other person points to your shirt and
says to you something like: "is
that a cotton shirt?"
In
Spanish, the other person would more likely say:
¿Esa
camisa es de algodón?
The question refers
to a feminine single item word and is a straight forward invitation for you to
state if that single item, the shirt in question is a cotton shirt.
The answer could be a simple yes/ no. However, you could easily be
more informative with very little additional effort.
Have a look at some
examples of how you could reply:
- Sí, esta camisa es de algodón (yes, this shirt is a cotton shirt);
- No, esta camisa no es de algodón (no, this shirt is not a cotton shirt);
- No, esta camisa no es de algodón, es de seda (no, this shirt is not a cotton shirt, it is a silk shirt);
Now
you should practise answering the question:
¿Esa
camisa es de algodón?
