Playa


Today's WOTD is: "playa" = beach

In Spanish, the noun "playa" is a feminine noun of Latin origin which means beach. The noun “playa” is also used in Spanish to refer to the seaside as a holiday destination/ option.

A commonly used expression containing the word "playa" is:
  • Cabeza de playa (beach head);

Some examples of the use of the word "playa" are:
  • Cuando hace calor me gusta ir a la playa (when it is hot, I like going to the beach);
  • ¿Qué prefieres para veranear, montaña o playa? (for your summer holidays, what do you prefer, the hills or the seaside:);
  • En Normandía se estableció rapidamente una cabeza de playa (a beach head was quickly established in Normandy);
