Is That A Gold Watch?

Imagine you are talking to a relative, a friend or colleague. You are talking about watches/ jewellery. At some point, the other person points to your watch and says to you something like: "is that a gold watch?"

In Spanish, the other person would more likely say:
¿Ese reloj es de oro?

The question refers to a masculine single item word and is a straightforward invitation for you to state if that single item, the watch in question is a gold watch. The answer could be a simple yes/ no. However, you could easily be more informative with very little additional effort.

Have a look at some examples of how you could reply:
  • Sí, este reloj es de oro (yes, this is a gold watch);
  • No, este reloj no es de oro (no, this is not a gold watch);
  • No, este reloj no es de oro, es de acero inoxidable (no, this is not a gold watch, it is a stainless steel watch);

Now you should practise answering the question:
¿Ese reloj es de oro?
