Today is Saint Valentine's day, in Spanish, “Día de San Valentín” and often known also as:
- Día de los enamorados
- Día del amor y la amistad
- Día del cariño
Saint Valentine
Legend
has it that Saint Valentine was sentenced to death and beheaded on
the orders of a Roman emperor. He had committed the crime of
performing weddings for soldiers who, under that same emperor, were
forbidden to marry. It was in the Middle Ages that Saint Valentine
became associated with romantic love and lovers.
Today,
this association is widely celebrated on the 14th
of February, although some countries celebrate it on other days. For
example, in Brazil it is known as “Dia
dos Namorados”
and it is celebrated on the 12th
of June.

San
