Today's WOTD is: "excursión" = excursion

In Spanish, “excursión” is a feminine noun of Latin origin, which means excursion. The Spanish noun “excursión” may also be used to refer to the following activities:

  • Outing
  • Trip
  • Hike
  • Ramble
  • Tour

A couple of commonly used expressions with the word “excursión” are:
  • Excursión con guía (guided tour);
  • Ir de excursión (to go on an excursion);
  • Llevar de excursión (to take on an excursion);
  • Salir de excursión (to go out on an excursion);

Some examples of the use of the word "excursión" are:
  • Estamos organizando una excursión para personas de tercera edad (we are organising a trip for senior citizens);
  • Vamos en una excursión con guía por el casco antiguo de la ciudad (we are going on a guided tour of the old part of town)
  • El profesor se llevó a toda la clase de excursión al campo (the teacher took the whole class on an outing/ trip to the countryside);
  • Los fines de semana solíamos ir de excursión a la montaña (at weekends we used to go hiking/ rambling on the hills);
