Época

Today's WOTD is: "época" = epoch


1. In Spanish, “época” is a feminine noun of Latin/ Greek origin, the main meaning of which is era/ age/ epoch, as in:
  • Estamos en una época de muchos cambios (we are in a time of many changes);




2. Some expressions with the word “época” are:
  • Adelantarse a su época (to be ahead of his/ her time);
    • Tu abuelo fue un visionario, se adelantó a su época (your grandfather was a visionary, he was ahead of his time);
  • De época (typical of sometime in the past/ period);
    • Iban en un coche de época (they were travelling in a period car);
  • De esta época (of this age);
  • En mi/ tu/ su nuestra/ vuestra época (in my/ your his/ her/ our/ their time);
    • En mi época lo pasábamos muy bien (in my time we really enjoyed ourselves);
  • Época de exámenes (the examination period/ time);
    • Estamos en época de exámenes (we are in the examinations period);
  • Época navideña (Christmas period/ time);
  • Formar época (to make history/ to be memorable);
  • Hacer época (to make history/ to be memorable);
