Do You Like Sports?

SCENARIO
Imagine you are talking to a relative, a friend or a work colleague. You are talking about the things each one of you like. At some point the other person says to you something like: "do you like sports?"

In Spanish, the other person could choose to be less formal and say:
¿Te gustan los deportes?

Alternatively, he/ she could choose to be more formal and say:
¿Le gustan los deportes?

OUR TIP
The question is an invitation for you to say whether or not you like sports. A yes/no answer may be strictly sufficient. However, with little effort, your answer could be a lot more informative.

Here are some examples of how you could reply:
  • Sí, me gustan los deportes (yes, I like sports);
  • Sí, me gustan todos los deportes (yes, I like all sports);
  • Sí, me gustan casi todos los deportes (yes, I like almost all sports);
  • Sí, me gustan bastante los deportes (yes, I quite like sports);
  • Sí, me gustan mucho los deportes (yes, I like sports very much);
  • No, me gustan muy poco los deportes (no, I don't like sports very much);
  • No, no me gustan los deportes (no, I don't like sports);
  • No, no me gustan mucho los deportes (no, I don't like sports very much);
  • No, no me gustan nada los deportes (no, I don't like sports at all);

Now you should practise answering the question:
¿Te gustan los deportes?
